Mondel─ôz – Top Team Coaching Through Change

Mondelez International is one of the world’s largest snacks companies, with global net revenues of $35 billion and 110,000 employees operating in 165 countries around the world. Their portfolio features nine billion-dollar brands, including Cadbury, Milka, Jacobs coffee, Nabisco and Trident gum.

With period of acquisition and restructuring necessitating more complex, pan-European matrix management, including major change in operating processes, there was a need for the Top Team in a European Country to re-orientate their way of operating and take strong leadership of the change . The nature of the leadership dialogue and decision making at the top of the business had become more complicated, requiring leaders at different levels in the system to ‘step up’ more.

Waverley worked with the leadership team for over a year, starting with an offsite to help them tale stock of the changes they were facing and to reflect on what this would mean for them personally and relationally as leaders. This was supported by 360 feedback and 1:1 coaching. A number of follow-up team coaching and action learning sessions created a context for people to powerfully support and challenge each other as the new ways of working became embedded. A particular focus was on the quality of dialogue at the top of the organisation, with the team taking personal responsibility for ensuring that this was sufficiently open and constructive to address the challenges of the new operating model.

Relationships at the top of the business, which were becoming strained, improved radically and, despite the disruption of massive internal changes in systems and processes, the business grew and gained market share in very difficult economic conditions.
